Gravity yoga. Boxing. Martial arts. Pilates. Rock climbing. And all right here on Central Avenue.
These are just some of the fitness classes you can find here in the district--and while they might make your high school PE class look like naptime, the instructors promise that these activities can be enjoyed by people of all fitness levels. On August 19, the CBID staff will coordinate with the University at Albany to introduce students to these unique fitness opportunities at a brand-new marketing event called Recre-ACTION.
As part of Recre-ACTION, over 200 Residential Life Assistants will be transported to Vatrano Park, where they will take free classes at five participating businesses, Good Karma Studio, Schott's Boxing, Pil-Sung Martial Arts, Albany Pilates Center, and A.I.R. Albany's Indoor Rockgym. Each RA will get a short introduction to boxing, rock climbing, gravity yoga, martial arts, and pilates--all free of charge--in the hopes that the students will come back to the businesses and recommend them to others. At the end, these RA's will be sent back to their dorms with flyers, coupons, and marketing scripts to help them promote these businesses to their students.
This event, which is similar to "All Around Albany," the freshmen orientation event that takes place each August on Central Avenue, is part of ongoing efforts to introduce college students to the district and make them into customers.
“We started "All Around Albany"’in 2011, because we wanted to encourage students to invest more in local businesses,” says Anthony Capece, Executive Director for the Central Avenue Business Improvement District. In its third year, "All Around Albany" expects to play host to over 750 students.
Recre-ACTION will take place at Vatrano Park, Monday August 19, 2013, from 1-4pm. Bruegger's Bagels will provide refreshments. To learn more about the event, or how you can participate, please contact the Central BID offices at (518) 462-4300.
