BRT stations first step in creating compact walkable neighborhoods
This evening, the city of Albany will host a public meeting as part of a planning process exploring opportunities for Transit Oriented Development along Bus Rapid Transit corridors in the city. The meeting will be held at the Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio, located at 339 Central Avenue in Albany.
Transit Oriented Development is development that takes advantages of locations with excellent access to transit, increased walkability, and creates nodes of mixed uses and activity. This planning is the next stop recommended by the Albany 2030 Plan.
The public is invited to an Open House from 5-6pm to informally discuss the proposed TOD concepts and scenarios and then to a Community Presentation from 6-8pm regarding the proposed TOD zoning scenarios.
The City of Albany has retained The Cecil Group, CSArch, TR Advisors, and FHI to prepare a Transit-Oriented Development zoning proposal for the Bus Rapid Transit corridors and nodes in the city. The Cecil Group will present information about three potential designs, and then solicit feedback. The goal is to create compact walkable neighborhoods near BRT stations.
Please join to provide feedback. For more information, please contact the Albany Department of Development and Planning (518) 434-2532 X 17.
