This month's 1st Friday a-MAY-zing!

Tomorrow's 1st Friday promises to be a-MAY-zing.

The fun starts at 5pm at 45 Central Avenue at Townsend Park Homes, one of Albany's Affordable Housing buildings. If you've ever been curious about the interior of this monolith, now is the perfect time to see it. This month, Townsend Park Homes has joined the party, showing paintings by local artist Brittany Deady. The portraits have a photography-meets-graffiti look to them and showcase a fine sense of human relationships.

Further down the street at 337 Central, Pauly's Hotel will also be participating, contributing fun funk from the Uncle Buck Blues Trio and lots of happy hour specials. So hop on board the trolley at Lark and come down to our neck of the woods!

After 9pm, Central Avenue heats up with additional acts! We have After 1st Friday acts at Pauly's Hotel 337 Central, DJ Sabrina at the Women's Building at 373 Central, Alien Nation at Fuze Box at 12 Central, and the 1920's Burlesque Revue at Ristorante Paradiso, 198 Central Avenue.

1st Friday is a project of the Upstate Artists Guild and Michael Weidrich who bring arts and entertainment to venues throughout the Capital city on the 1st Friday of every month. Businesses open their doors from 5-9pm each first Friday, and invite the public in to see artwork, music, and dance. The event is promoted through maps and online, and participating venues plug one another to keep the fun going.

The project is a great way for local business owners to gain a bigger following for their businesses--hundreds of potential customers visit the stops on this tour each month looking for new art; many return looking for additional goods and services other days of the month. Besides that, many business owners say this is their best night of the month. They sell more wine, flowers, gifts, and clothing than any other night--and it's fun!

If you're interested in booking an artist or performer for your business next 1st Friday, please contact the Central Business Improvement District at (518) 462-4300. The event is free and open to the public.
