Taco Del Mar, a Seattle-based company that specializes in made-to-order Mission-style tacos is hitting the Capital Region and the very first restaurant will be located, where else but, the Central Avenue Business District.
Owner Adam Gelman, who opened his first Subway last year, is looking forward to bringing this fun business to his Washington Avenue locationand joining two businesses under one roof. "We're going to have a good time, and the food is great," says Gelman.
The new restaurant will be located right inside the Subway, with individual counter areas devoted to each, and a shared dining room.
The new restaurant is expected to open April 12. Gelman surveyed the scene separated from the rest of the restaurant by plastic sheeting while workmen hung the neon sign out front. He plans to install a hut-style roof, and surf board top tables. "It looks like a lot of work, but it goes together fast," he says.
Taco Del Mar is all about fresh ingredients and a laid-back Baja lifestyle. The concept was inspired by brothers James and John Schmidt, who spent a lot of time surfing in California, and wanted to open up a restaurant that captured that fun and easy lifestyle in Seattle. They opened their first location in 1992. Today, there are 260 locations, and the company belongs to Subway.
Taco Del Mar will be located at 202 Washington Avenue, in Albany. For more information, visit the website www.tacodelmar.com.
