New Owners Add Customer Spin and Green Technology to Lexington Vacuum

Albany, NY – June 23, 2011 – Kicking it old school, the new owners of Lexington Vacuum use good old-fashioned personalized sales and service, coupled with green technology, to help Capital Region businesses and families live in clean, healthy environments.

“Everybody has dirt,” said Kim Brix, principal owner of Lexington Vacuum, who operates the business in joint venture with her husband and business partner, Marty, and son, Pierce.

“We are right here in the community. Anyone can stop in at any time to ask us a question, drop off their vacuum to be serviced, get a free estimate on the cost of repair or purchase a new vacuum cleaner, which we will maintain, service or repair as the equipment ages. We offer quality products and services – it’s all about finding a solution to the customer’s needs,” Marty said.

With so many small businesses going under due to internet competition, the Brixes searched for an opportunity that was relatively internet proof. According to Marty, “We found the vacuum cleaner business to be a very sound, stable industry especially when it is offered with personalized sales, service and repair. You just can’t get this kind of quality and service on the internet or in the big box stores.”

The Brixes purchased the 65-year-old vacuum cleaning sales and service business when the former owner retired at the end of February 2011. After a seamless transition, the new owners opened the doors on March 1, without any down time. The new owners recognized the value of retaining the employees who have a wealth of talent and expertise. The three employees the Brixes inherited combine to have nearly 50 years of experience at Lexington in vacuum sales and repair, making them an invaluable asset to the company. Currently, six full-time employees work at the store.

At the suggestion of long-time employee and new General Manager Tim Crowe, Lexington Vacuum has become a dealer of the Polti Vaporetto, an ecological dry vapor cleaning system. New to the United States, the Vaporetto uses green friendly dry vapor technology to kill dust mites, fleas, flea eggs, bedbugs, the H1N1 virus, salmonella, mold, mildew and more, without the use of chemicals. Adding the Vaporetto to other high-quality product lines is in keeping with the Brix’s business acumen of being environmentally friendly while eliminating dirt and allergens from homes and work sites. Lexington Vacuum now seeks to partner with a school district or hospital to demonstrate Vaporetto’s effectiveness.

Lexington Vacuum is a member of the Vacuum Dealers Trade Association, the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Central Avenue Business Improvement District. According to Kim, she will be applying to be officially recognized as a Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise.

Lexington Vacuum is located at 997 Central Avenue, Albany, New York. The Brixes have lived in the Capital Region for 21 years and look forward to serving the vacuum cleaning needs of the community. For more information call Pierce Brix, (518) 482-4427, or go to the website www.lexivac.com
